6 Months Is Enough — If You're Strategic

Let's be honest: 6 months isn't ideal for UPSC. Most toppers prepare for 12-18 months. But 6 months is absolutely doable for Prelims if you:

  1. Study 8-10 focused hours daily
  2. Follow a strict schedule with zero wasted time
  3. Use smart resources that combine concepts + practice
  4. Take mock tests from Month 2 onwards

Here's the plan.

The "I Don't Have Time" Hacks

Hack 1: Use CurrentPrep Instead of Newspapers

Reading 3 newspapers takes 2-3 hours. CurrentPrep's Daily Digest takes 20 minutes and covers the same content with UPSC mapping.

Time saved: 2 hours/day = 360 hours in 6 months

Hack 2: Test While You Learn

Don't wait until "you've finished studying" to take tests. Take 10-question quizzes after every chapter at CurrentPrep. This tests retention immediately.

Hack 3: Mobile Study Time

Install CurrentPrep as a PWA. Practice 10 MCQs during commute, lunch breaks, or waiting time. That's 30-50 extra questions per day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 6 months enough for someone starting from zero?

For Prelims, yes — if you study 8-10 hours daily without breaks. For Prelims + Mains, it's very tight. Focus on clearing Prelims first; you'll get 3-4 months between Prelims and Mains.

Should I join a test series?

CurrentPrep's 10,800+ free questions are more than enough for Prelims practice. Use the Custom Quiz Builder to focus on your weak areas.

What if I can only study 4-5 hours daily?

Extend the plan to 9-10 months. Prioritize Polity, Economy, and Current Affairs — together they're ~50% of the paper.
